Know the Signs

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is any problem that causes severe pain, bleeding, swelling, infection or damage that could cost you a tooth if it waits. If you are unsure, call us; our team will help you decide how urgent it is.

Many people put off care because the pain comes and goes. Unfortunately, most dental problems do not heal on their own. A cracked tooth can split further, an infection can spread and a lost filling lets decay move faster. Being seen early usually means simpler, more comfortable treatment.

What you get

Before You Arrive

What to Do Right Now While You Get to the Dentist

Stay calm, protect the area and call (713) 999-5328 so we can prepare for you. These first-aid steps help until you are in the chair.

STEP 01

Knocked-out tooth

Hold it by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently without scrubbing and keep it in milk or in your cheek. Come in as quickly as possible.

STEP 02

Broken tooth

Rinse with warm water, save any pieces and use a cold compress on the outside of your face to limit swelling.

STEP 03

Toothache

Rinse with warm water and floss gently to remove trapped food. Do not place aspirin directly on the gums or tooth.

STEP 04

Bitten lip or tongue

Press a clean cloth on the area and use a cold compress. Heavy bleeding that will not stop needs prompt care.

STEP 05

Lost filling or crown

Keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on that side. We can often recement or replace it the same day.

Safety First

When to Go to the ER Instead of the Dentist

Most dental emergencies are best treated by a dentist, but some symptoms need a hospital emergency room right away.

Call 911 or go to the ER if:Swelling makes it hard to breathe or swallow, swelling is spreading toward your eye or down your neck, you have a high fever with facial swelling, or you have a broken jaw or a serious head injury. Once you are stable, we can treat the dental cause.

Do Not Wait Until Monday

We are open 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends. Walk in or call ahead.

Your Visit

How a Same-Day Emergency Visit Works

From your first call to the end of treatment, our goal is quick relief and honest answers. You will always know the cost before we begin.

When you call, we ask a few questions about your symptoms so we know what to expect. When you arrive, the dentist examines the area and takes X-rays if needed. We explain what we found, your treatment options and the cost, then begin care to relieve pain the same day whenever possible. If you need follow-up treatment such as a crown, we schedule it before you leave. Comfort options are discussed with you before any procedure.

Prefer to plan ahead? You can also request a time through our online booking page, or read more about same-day emergency dental care.
